yup, think I’ll stick with this! Now to do everything around it…
Ahh wow i really like the compromise between the two statues from before for this!!
aw thanks!! I’ll probably change it again before putting it in-game but I’m done with it for now!

trying to make a large statue but can’t decide on colour! I like the yellowy version but I think it makes it look too alive? The grey version definitely looks like a statue but… it’s awful boring.
Maybe you could use the grey one but put some moss or somethin’ on it to make it look more lively but not too-much-so? :u
yeah!! I’ll try this...

Grey with yellowy details?
yeah I think I’ll stick with the grey and sort of have like, plants climbing up it to add colour, maybe colour the beads in? Or the...

more possible NPC ghost talk, like before. Only a few this time, I’m supes tired. Just some game specific hints to the overall plot and some nonsense ghosts that ring bells and hide in dumbwaiters.

aHAha the thing is with that last post… it’s set up so the idle animations of a player involve the ones set for victory poses… so if jason’s left standing for a while he’ll just… do a jump and stay there with his arms up. it looks ridiculous… may have to keep it.

I have several projects planned now!
First and foremost there’s Kin, obviously. Which I can see taking a while! Easily the rest of summer. With five large areas and a big boss fight, yeah, It’ll take a lot of energy. But I’m so very… passionate? about it, that I can see myself finishing it.
After that I’ve agreed to colab on a game with a talented musician! He wants...

gonna type some possible ghost talk! this’ll more or less be me rambling off sentences I’d like npcs to say, both helpful and otherwise. I was gonna write it on paper but that doesn’t have spellcheck. Far from everything in here! Just what I could think of right now. So many words after the cut…

Oh also, real quick. Check this out [LINK] it’s incomplete, but I followed what it has when I first started and it really helps learn the basics of variables and events. It was started forever ago, so I really doubt he is going to ever finish it, but once you get to where it stops you can sort of figure out the rest yourself if you wanted to.
pfft that sounds ridiculous....

oh right! this is my first time attempting something like this (the only things I’ve made before have been little things in game maker) and I’m pretty much just winging it. So this is really interesting, thank you! I’ve been making sort of “mock-up” maps in photoshop sticking to a 32x32 grid anyway.
Have you used rpg maker before then? I’d really love to...

Ah thanks!!
I want to for backgrounds, I haven’t thought about it any more than that though… I’ll look into it! It’s not the visual stuff I feel like I’ve done too much of to start again but rather everything else. So I’m defiantly open to trying out new ways of putting a map together at this point!
I think the parallaxing you are referring to is the...

The version of rpg maker I’m using (vx), by default, only lets you use a set number of tilesets. Which is a hassle! Because I want to use lots. To get around this there’s a neat little program and script that swaps tilesets around when you go into new areas. This’ll work fine but it’s really awkward. Before playtesting, all tilesets have to be set back to...

aahhgrh, having problems getting the 8 directional movement to work with a caterpillar system… I may have to make a choice between the two. I’m leaning towards 8 directional movement but… caterpillar systems are so cute :’(

ah good advice! I want this area to be disconnected to the city in both distance and, well, style I suppose? And while a more bluish colour scheme makes it look like it’s lit by natural light I would like to tie in the purples of Comic as it’s a place strongly connected to her… But I think what I have is too much, I need to play around with it, try and get some happy...

The area I’m working on now will be visited twice under different circumstances! The first time it’ll be an hour or two before dawn, as Comic leaves for the first time. Peaceful ghosts’ll be milling around outside, same as ever. The second time will be when Jason travels there, at sunrise. Underlings will have been there since Comic left, having no reason to fear entering any...

choosing colours is difficult :(
I THINK it depends on the feelings you want to go for with these they both look really nice but the top one looks more naturally dark and the bottom looks more ‘city’ like imo because city lights + the blue sky would make things more purply
where without the city lights the blue would come in more I GUESS??
ah good advice! I want...

(the only reason I made a standing peep turnaround just now was so that I could make one with a watering can outside the hotel, watering dead plants forever. Cute or morbid? I can’t tell)

It’ll be a challenge to design the city levels, I think - especially In a way that includes tall buildings without obscuring the view of the player, many of which are partially destroyed… Today I’ll work on this, think about what areas I’ll definitely need and the best way to present them. I’m using a static camera view and pixels two times their size so it’s...

yeah so maybe nothing would ever happen like that last post but, VIDEO GAMES, and I think it’s cute.

so the ground under the city is riddled with tunnels and caves and surrounded by swamp and marshland. After the boss fight, I thought it’d be neat if the commotion caused these tunnels to collapse. The city effectively sinks down neatly as a whole and the surrounding water slooshes in, flooding the...
